WHAT IS A TXT RECORD?

A TXT, or text, record holds virtually any text information you want. It has a hostname for the purposes of assigning text to a particular hostname.

It’s most often used for storing sender policy framework (SPF) data – this controls which IPs and servers are permitted to send email from your domain. This is a good way of avoiding spam.

However TXT records are also used for verification of Google Apps and Microsoft Office 365 for example.
